Apostille first, then the sworn translation
Almost every rejected file we see went wrong in the sequence rather than in the translation. This is the order that works.

Apostille the originals first
The apostille goes on the original document, before anything is translated — because the sworn translation has to include it. Translate first and you will be paying twice.

Send us the whole bundle at once
Not one document at a time. A set is cheaper than the same documents quoted separately, and it lets us make your name, your address and your dates read identically across all of them.

We flag anything that does not need us
Some certificates are issued in an international multilingual format that Spanish offices accept as they are. If yours is one of them, we will tell you and leave it out of the quote.

Sworn set delivered, digital and on paper
Each translation stamped, signed and certified by the sworn translator, with the original attached. Digital for the consulate portal, posted where a notary or an office wants paper in hand.
What you will be asked for
The exact list depends on which route you are on and which consulate you are dealing with. These are the documents that come up in almost every file.
Spanish residency and property purchase: two separate document files
This is the single most useful thing to understand before you start. The property purchase and the right to live here are handled by different people, on different timetables, and asking for different papers. The purchase-based residency route that used to join them closed in 2025 — buying a home in Spain no longer brings residency with it, and the routes people use now are assessed on income, insurance and background rather than on the house.
So you may well end up with two bundles. The purchase bundle goes to a notary and a Spanish lawyer: identity documents, a power of attorney if you are not going to be in the room, the money trail behind the funds, mortgage paperwork if there is a lender. The residency bundle goes to a consulate or an immigration office: criminal record certificate, proof of income or savings, private health cover, and the civil status documents that prove who is coming with you.
The detail that gets files sent back
Names. A birth certificate that says one thing, a passport that says another, a bank statement with a middle name dropped and a marriage certificate with an accent missing — and a Spanish official who has no way of knowing they are the same person. Translating the bundle as a single job is how that gets caught, because one translator sees all of it. Where the originals genuinely disagree, we render each faithfully and tell you where the mismatch is, so you can decide how to explain it rather than discovering it at a counter.
Everything here is a sworn translation by a MAEC-accredited translator — stamped, signed and certified. If you only need one or two civil status certificates rather than a whole relocation bundle, that is a smaller job and we will price it as one.
We translate documents. We are not immigration lawyers and we will not pretend to be: for what your particular route requires, your gestoría or lawyer is the right person to ask. What we will do is tell you honestly which of the documents in front of us actually need a sworn translation, and which do not.

We are based in Spain, we have been doing this since 1999, and a large part of the work is exactly this: somebody in Britain, Germany, the United States or Latin America has decided to come, and the paperwork has become the hardest part of the year.
It is rarely difficult work. It is work that has to be right the first time, because the consulate appointment is in three weeks and the notary date is already booked. So we would rather spend ten minutes telling you that two of your six documents do not need translating than sell you all six and have you find out later.

Who asks for these sworn translations in Spain
The same bundle gets split between several desks. Each wants it certified.
The consulate or immigration office
Criminal record certificate, proof of income or savings, health cover, and the certificates that prove your family relationships. Sworn into Spanish, with the apostille included in the translation.
The notary and the purchase
Identity documents, powers of attorney, and anything the notary needs to establish who is signing and on whose behalf. If you cannot be in Spain on the day, the power of attorney is the document to get right.
The bank and the mortgage
Spanish lenders want the income and the savings evidenced in Spanish: payslips, tax returns, pension statements, statements from your bank at home. Often the largest part of the bundle by volume.
Health cover
Private policies and, where relevant, the paperwork from your existing insurer. Continuing treatment started at home is a separate conversation — we handle those reports too.
Schools, universities and work
School records for children joining mid-year, and diplomas or professional qualifications if you intend to work or register with a professional body here.
Your lawyer or gestoría
They can send us the documents directly and we will keep you copied. Most of our relocation work arrives that way, and it is usually the fastest route.
