    Who needs these certified translations

    Six situations, one shared requirement: a document somebody is going to rely on.

    • Care continuing in the UK

      You moved, or you were treated abroad and came home. A UK consultant needs the actual history — diagnoses, imaging, medication, what was tried and what was stopped — rendered so it reads as clinical information rather than an approximation.

    • Insurance and injury claims

      An accident abroad assessed here, or a UK claimant with foreign medical evidence. Insurers and their solicitors work from the translation, not the original, so it has to be complete and certified.

    • Medico-legal reports

      Reports prepared for proceedings — personal injury, immigration and asylum, family cases. Here the certification requirement is strictest, and a court sometimes asks for more than a statement of accuracy.

    • Employment contracts

      A foreign contract being produced to a UK employer, tribunal or adviser, or a UK contract going to someone who does not read English. Notice periods, restrictive covenants and termination clauses are where careless translation becomes expensive.

    • Commercial agreements

      Supply, distribution and agency agreements, NDAs, shareholder documents and settlement agreements. Defined terms have to stay defined; a term that drifts between clauses breaks the contract that was built on it.

    • Tenancy and property documents

      Leases, tenancy agreements and property paperwork, usually needed alongside proof of address or income for something else entirely.

    How much certification does a UK body require?

    The UK has no sworn translator register, which sounds like a simplification and is in fact the reason this question needs asking. In Spain or Germany you ask which appointed translator; here you ask how much certification the person on the other end expects, and the answer genuinely differs.

    • A clinician reading a report to treat you wants accuracy and nothing else. Certification adds cost and no clinical value, and we will say so rather than sell it to you.
    • A caseworker, an insurer or an employer wants a certified translation: complete, dated, with a signed confirmation of accuracy and our contact details. This is the standard answer and it is what we supply by default.
    • A court occasionally wants more — an affidavit, a notarised declaration, or a translator prepared to stand behind the document formally. If there is a direction or an order specifying the format, send us its wording and we will match it exactly.

    Underneath all three, the translation itself is the part that matters. A discharge letter is dense with abbreviations, drug names, units and two health systems that classify the same condition differently. A commercial agreement is a machine built from defined terms. So clinical work goes to medical translators and agreements go to legal translators; the certificate of accuracy is applied on top, once the translation is right.

    Confidentiality here is not boilerplate. Medical records and commercial agreements are seen only by the translator assigned to them, uploads are encrypted, we sign an NDA whenever you want one, and files are permanently deleted 30 days after delivery.

    Does a medical report need a certified translation for the UK?
    It depends who reads it. For a treating clinician, usually not — accuracy is what helps them, and certification adds cost without adding clinical value. For an insurer, a caseworker, a tribunal or a court, yes. Tell us who is asking and we will tell you which you need before you pay for the more expensive one.
    My solicitor says the court has directed a particular format. Can you match it?
    Yes — send us the wording of the direction or order. Courts occasionally ask for more than a certificate of accuracy, such as a sworn or notarised declaration, and we would far rather read the actual requirement than guess at it from a description.
    Who translates clinical documents?
    Translators who work in medicine, not generalists with a dictionary. Clinical records are full of abbreviations, drug names, dosages and system-specific classifications; an error in one of those is not a stylistic problem. Certification is applied once the specialist translation is complete.
    Can you translate a contract that has already been signed?
    Yes, and it is most of this work. The translation reproduces the agreement as executed, including handwritten amendments, initials, schedules and annexes. It does not alter the agreement and it does not change which law governs it.
    Is my document confidential?
    Yes. Uploads are encrypted, the file is seen only by the translator assigned to it, and we sign an NDA on request — most of our corporate clients require one as a matter of course. Everything is permanently deleted 30 days after delivery.
    How much does it cost?
    By document and language pair, as a fixed price agreed before we start. Reports and agreements vary enormously in length, so a published rate would be wrong for almost everyone. Send the file and you will have a real price the same day, with no obligation.
    How quickly can you deliver?
    You receive the quote within 24 hours. Delivery depends on length and on whether a specialist reviewer is involved; we give you a firm date with the quote and confirm it before you commit. If there is a hearing or a claim deadline, tell us that date first.
